Cloud-free image time series at pixel level
In 2019 VITO Remote Sensing released a ground-breaking technology that combines Sentinel-1 radar and Sentinel-2 optical satellite data to generate cloud-free time series of biophysical indicators such as NDVI at field level. We’ve been using this service ever since to upscale the time series service of our Terrascope viewer. When you use the area of interest functionality, and show the info of an area, the FAPAR value is derived from CropSAR, which integrates Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data to overcome quality loss due to clouded days.
Now, VITO Remote Sensing has released an additional CropSAR service which generates cloud-free image time series at pixel level. With this service you can analyse every pixel of an entire region in detail rather than extracting only one value per time step for a whole parcel.
- CropSAR 1D
The original CropSAR technology combines Sentinel-1 radar and Sentinel-2 optical satellite data to generate cloud-free time series of biophysical indicators such as NDVI at field level. CropSAR 1D is a valuable service to provide insights into crop performance.
- CropSAR 2D
The new CropSAR service generates pixel level biophysical indicators such as NDVI, FAPAR and FCOVER, but can also generate cloud-free natural color and false color infrared image time series, and support multiple monitoring application beyond agriculture.
Both CropSAR services are available via Terrascope’s EOplaza, where they use openEO for highly scalable processing with limited user effort. You can launch a CropSAR request with just few lines of code and an internet connection.
More information about the CropSAR technology and services is explained by Kristof Van Tricht in his blog post ‘New CropSAR service provides cloud-free time series at pixel level’.
